At Enabling Communities, we have been driven by a deep understanding of the unmet needs and dissatisfaction experienced by self-managed and fund-managed clients, including their dedicated carers, throughout Australia.
We recognise that a significant 37.5 percent of individuals aged 0-64 years reported a need for more formal assistance than they currently receive, with females (39.0 percent) slightly surpassing males (36.1 percent) in this aspect.
Additionally, we acknowledge that self-managed clients, who seek quality services aligned with their preferences and control, make up a larger proportion compared to fund-managed clients. It is disheartening to note that only 48.4 percent of clients expressed satisfaction with the range of services received, and the satisfaction rate among carers was even lower at 29.6 percent.
In the care and support sector, one of Australia’s largest and fastest-growing sectors, the work related to disability is unfortunately widely misunderstood. Shockingly, 42 percent of Australians are unaware of the responsibilities and nature of disability support work. This lack of awareness results in a perception of lower job prestige, pay, and limited career progression opportunities compared to other sectors.
Surprisingly, 51 percent of Australians prefer retail work over disability work, and 32 percent would rather work in aged care. Moreover, there are specific challenges in attracting and retaining culturally and linguistically diverse workers and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workers. The broader community’s understanding of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and the overall disability sector also remains insufficient.
We prioritise the well-being and satisfaction of our clients, their nominated representatives, and the caring individuals who contribute significantly to their lives. Our mission is to empower lives by providing high-quality services that place the client at the core of our business. By doing so, we aim to bridge the existing gaps, raise awareness, and contribute to a better understanding of the NDIS and the broader disability sector.
Join the Enabling Communities team on our journey to empower lives and create a positive impact in the lives of individuals with disabilities and their caring supporters.
At Enabling Communities, our dedicated team is committed not only to establishing ourselves as a trusted and client-centric service provider for NDIS participants but also to recognising and valuing the essential role of carers as part of the support ecosystem.
